Why do we get wrinkles?

There are many reasons why a person can get wrinkles...genetics, older age, smoking, a diet in high fat/sugar foods, alcohol/illicit drug use, severe weather conditions such as hot sun or cold/wind, stress....the list goes on. Unfortunately, despite how good some of us take care of ourselves and do all the right things, we still get wrinkles. This is due to the natural causes of aging, which is the one thing we can't control. While we age, the primary components in our skin that make us look young start to break down and deteriorate. When we start to loose the structure of collogen, elastin, and hyluronic acid our skin begins to look saggy, dry, wrinkly, and tired.

What is the ideal patient for injectables:

Injectables are safe and effective for any skin type and ethnicity; as well as for both men and women. The ideal candidate for a treatment with Botox or a dermal filler will be someone in generally good health, understands the procedure, and holds reasonable expectations for the results.

The Botox or Dermal Filler Procedure:

The procedure for injectables will take less than an hour; many treatments can even be completed in 30 minutes or less. Botox, as well as most dermal fillers, can cause mild discomfort, so a topical or local anesthetic may be used prior to treatment. Once the targeted area has been determined, the provider will place the injectable under the skin with a tiny needle. Patients are free to return to their usual activities the same afternoon.

What is Juvederm and how does it work?

Juvederm is a colorless, smooth gel formulation. It is made up of a natural,
biodegradable substance called hyaluronic acid. Hyluronic acid exists naturally
in all living organisms. Our skin houses the vast majority of hyluronic acid in
the body (56%). It's primary function is to provide volume and pliability to the
skin and plays a crucial role in cell growth. Therefore, it is an ideal substance
to use as a dermal filler. Hyluronic acid is the body's primary means of moisture
retention - the more water your skin can retain, the smoother and more plump
it gets, hence, effectively hiding small lines and wrinkles!

Juvederm gel is injected into the skin in small amounts to replace lost volume, lifting up and smoothing out unwanted wrinkles and folds.

How long does Juvederm last?

Generally, Juvederm lasts 4 - 6 months in the lips and 6 - 8 months in the lines that run from the nose to the mouth (nasolabial folds). It tends to last longer in less dynamic areas (areas with less movement). Again, results will vary from patient to patient. Juvederm tends to last longer than Restylane (which is another popular dermal filler), because Juvederm maintains more of it's volume (it absorbs more water). However, both have good uses.

How much does Juvederm cost?

The cost of dermal fillers also depends on the depth of your wrinkles and what areas you want treated. However, dermal fillers are charged per syringe. This varies greatly from person to person. For example, filling the nasolabial folds could take anywhere from 1 to 4 syringes.  We can discuss a treatment plan at your initial consultation.
